In 2022, through the generosity of the Powys family and a transformative gift by American philanthropist, Louis Bacon, Space for Giants supported the transition of ownership of Suyian Ranch to the Suyian Conservancy Trust, a Kenyan not-for-profit organisation. This move ensures that Suyian, with its precious wildlife, is protected in perpetuity for the benefit of Kenyans and indeed, the world.
Suyian Conservancy’s mission is to showcase best-in-class adaptive rangeland management, supported by applied conservation research and monitoring. Suyian’s success will be driven by its free-range livestock husbandry practices, carbon sequestration, and tourism revenue. Moreover, Suyian aims to expand its impact within the local community by serving as a hub for collaboration and cooperation among conservancies in Laikipia. Additionally, it seeks to make a continental and global impact by housing the Space for Giants‘ conservation initiatives.
In 2023, Suyian took a significant step forward in achieving its conservation objectives and long-term financial sustainability by forming an exclusive partnership with &Beyond to develop and operate high-end tourism facilities within the conservancy. &Beyond will not only be Suyian’s exclusive tourism partner but will also hold an influential position on the Conservancy Board, making them a key partner in our conservation journey.
&Beyond Suyian Lodge opens in July 2025.
